Rupal Kulkarni Rupal hails from Thane, Maharashtra and has completed her Bachelors in Commerce at the University of Mumbai.

Her vision is to understand the impact of the environment on the overall development and welfare of poor communities. She is particularly interested in community-based initiatives in watershed management, which are "key to the protection and growth of climate sensitive sectors". Recognising the importance of managing water resources effectively, she feels that there is a need for a paradigm shift in water governance policies in developing countries across the world.
Rupal would like to pursue further research in this field to bridge the gap between governmental policy interventions and community based initiatives.
