Eligibility

Resident/Non-Resident Individuals (excluding minors) holding HSBC Premier Savings Accounts with HSBC India, either held singly or jointly on a 'either or surviver' basis, may apply for a debit card.

Domestic debit cards are issued to the NRI customers holding NRO accounts with HSBC India. The domestic debit cards are also issued to the Power of Attorney holders designated by the NRI customers for their NRE Accounts with HSBC India.

Don'ts

Treat your Debit Card like Cash and keep it with you always

Never leave your Debit Card unattended

Your Debit Card is for your exclusive use only

Never surrender your Debit Card to anyone other than a designated Bank Officer at the HSBC branch and that too after destroying it

When you destroy your card upon card expiry or closure of your account, cut it into several pieces through the magnetic strip

Never reveal or surrender your ATM PIN to anyone

Please memorise your ATM Personal Identification Number (PIN) and destroy all physical evidence of the PIN

Never keep a written copy of your ATM PIN in close proximity to your Debit Card

It is recommended that you change the ATM PIN to a number of your choice as soon as possible and at regular intervals (at least once in three months thereafter)

When transacting at merchant establishments never sign an incomplete sales slip

Always ensure that the Debit Card is used in your presence when transacting at merchant establishments

Never attempt to use your Debit Card at merchant establishments that do not possess electronic point-of-sale swipe terminals

Please promptly notify HSBC in writing of any changes in your telephone or mailing address

Do not attempt to use your Debit Card for making purchases via telephone/mail, on the internet or in any other "card not present" situation

In case your Debit Card is lost or stolen or if you suspect that your Debit Card has been used fraudulently, call the HSBC Phonebanking or Customer Service representatives immediately to report the loss. The bank will block the card immediately.

You are able to access the HSBC Premier benefits if you have:

  • Maintain a quarterly Total Relationship Balance (TRB) of ₹4,000,000 (Rupees Forty Lakh only); OR
  • Have a mortgage relationship with disbursal of ₹11,500,000 (Rupees One Crore Fifteen Lakh only) or more, with HSBC India; OR
  • Hold a corporate salary account under the HSBC Corporate Employee Programme (CEP) in India with a net monthly salary credit of ₹300,000 (Rupees Three Lakh only) or more into the account

International debit cards cannot be used for purchase of prohibited items e.g. lottery tickets, banned or proscribed magazines, football pools, racing / riding tickets, participation in sweepstakes, payment of call-back services etc. If in doubt please contact the Bank for clarification.

Tariff structure subject to change from time to time at the sole discretion of HSBC.

The bank will charge a cross currency conversion markup of 3.5% (Service tax extra) on all international transactions (ATM & Point of Sale) using the HSBC Premier Platinum Debit Card.

Use of debit card at petrol pumps would invite a surcharge of 2.5% of the purchase value or ₹10/- (whichever is higher) as per industry standards.

The rates, commissions and charges in this tariff are not exhaustive. The Bank reserves the right to amend the current Tariff after providing a 30 day notice to customers. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) vide its Press Release dated December 5, 2017 has reiterated cautions regarding risk of virtual currencies including Bitcoins.

RBI has cautioned users, holders and traders of Virtual Currencies (VCs) including Bitcoins regarding the potential economic, financial, operational, legal, customer protection and security related risks associated in dealing with such VCs.

RBI has also clarified that it has not given any licence/authorization to any entity/company to operate such schemes or deal with Bitcoin or any VCs.
